This was so clearly and expertly done. Appreciate it!
Very informative. Can these cutting tools be used for turning other materials like ebonite, acrylic and resin? Or do i need stronger tools? I ask because i very much want to turn pens with a mini lathe.
This the best video I have seen so far that is geared towards the novice. Thank you for your help!
Thank you i need this detailed video.
I’ve been woodworking for over 45 years and turning for the last 20 (?). So, I’m experienced and reasonably skilled. For any newcomers, I can vouch that this is an excellent video with all that you need to know to get good results quickly. If only, it had been around when I started.
I’ve downsized my lathe now to an Axminster machine. Looks very much like the one on the video – perhaps a little smaller. Having had a large, much more expensive lathe, I can say that the Axminster does not represent a step down in quality.
I have no connection with Axminster other than as a customer of many years.
Sir by far the best video out there explaining what each tool does and how to do it. I’m gonna save this and run out to my rockler store and get some new tools. I’ve been using carbide scrapper and round head? Tools and I’m feeling limited.
Thanks, 74 yrs old and just getting into wood turning. Bought an old craftsman metal lathe and converting into wood. Haven’t turned wood since 6th grade. My new hobby, I hope lol. Appreciate your teaching.
Great video
👍🙏😎
Fabulous video. Learned so much.
Thank you
Nice class for the beginners.
Helping me get through my first go on a lathe😊
I like making skews and chisels for the lathe from vintage firmer chisels.
Yes this is the most amazing video ever thank you so very much for all the great information
👍👍👍
Fantastic video! As someone who’s just starting I appreciate it!❤
Great video. I’m new to lathe turning and this was very helpful information!!
Impeccable detail, analysis, and information. Thank you lol. I went into this blind and definitely had my tools mixed up based on labeling
THANK YOU! Newbie turner and that was very very educational.
Thanks, I’m just beginning and any tips or help is much appreciated.
Great Job! I purchased a lath a few years ago and finally got around to using it. While purchasing other used tools I acquired about a dozen old lath tools. I have ordered the sharpening equipment for the tools and now I have an understanding of what each tool does. Great job on your video.
Thanks for putting this vid up ,it really helps as a newbie to this hobby .
I am not proud to admit that I just learned I’ve been holding my chisels upside down. Thanks for having this video out here.
ESCAPE TO RURAL FRANCE. brought me here.
Turned my first cylinder today. Thank you for the instruction.
One of the best videos I have ever watched!! As a beginner, this video helped me clear a purpose of each tool. Extremely helpful. Thank you!!
wow, I’m bummed to only be finding this now! perfectly splendid editing and lessons! it’s already sped up on the parts that need it. very concise info throughout. I’ve been turning for a few years off and on and never seen it broken down so properly. thank you!
Brilliant video on how to use each individual chisel. I hope you dont mind me asking what type of lathe would you recommend to buy ,thanks
Very informative i.ll be watching many more.
Thank you for including details like the lathe speed, position of the tool guide relative to center line, and the tool angle. Much appreciated and VERY helpful for a novice!!!
This was extraordinarily welcoming and quite the demonstration of expertise with seeming ease. Thank you.
Sick music, I left this Channel in 10 seconds
Great video! I’m a new turner, I don’t really have anyone to teach me. This was exactly what I was looking for!
Brilliant video. I understand a lot more now. Ill be putting it into practice tomorrow. Thank you
Thank you
So the spindle gouge & the skew chisel are the only tools in this set where the tool rest is above center?
Amazingly informative. Thank you!
Awesome
Thanks mate… M subscribing.. I always wanted to do this
Been fighting with the skew mine were straight resharpened with an arc works better for me thank you for great video
so, starting at 7:35 , what caused the concave curve of the piece? Wouldn’t it cause a straight cut like when you cut with the roughing gouge? Or is there a technique I’m missing?
Uh the first 2 you might want to mention they can’t be used for anything other than spindles
Great video. Perfect beginner info thanks
Best!! Thank you !
I haven’t used a lathe since I was at school back in the 1960s, but I’ve recently purchased a very cheap “hobby” lathe from Lidl and I want to start making small stuff, mostly just for fun . . . I like making sawdust!
This is a great guide to what chisels I need and how to start using them. Thank you for an excellent, interesting and informative guide to get me started.
Very informative. I just started turning and to know how and when to use the right gouges was just what I needed.
This is a perfect demonstration for a beginner like me! So glad I came across this video. Thanks!

This movie is verry help full my question how is the best speed lathe for beginners?
